The Workhouse in Leeds where Shubal Speaight taught weaving; a group of women from the workhouse; and finally the picture of William Speaight. William had moved to London trained as a chemist, became a brewer and dabbled in property and is believed to have set up the family printing and publishing business. He was described as a gentleman and commissioned the well-regarded artist, James Northcote RA, to paint this fine portrait.
